December 6, 2016

If an Microsoft windows update keeps trying to install and keeps coming up with errors, then this update repair tool from Microsoft may help.

To automatically reset Windows Update components, run the appropriate Windows Update diagnostic, and then follow the on-screen instruction.

If the above tool doesn’t work for you can try the following solutions below:

Clearing Windows Update Cache

  • Open Command Prompt by clicking on Start -> Run or windows key + R then type “cmd
  • Right click on cmd.exe and run it as administrator
  • Type “net stop wuauserv“. This is done to terminate the windows automatic update service to allow us to delete the cache files in the commands below
  • Still on the Command Prompt, type “cd /d %windir%” or “cd\windows
  • Type “rd /s SoftwareDistribution
  • That’s it, the cache has been purged. Now we need to restart the windows automatic update service again. To do that, type “net start wuauserv
  • Run the Microsoft windows updates again

Run Check Disk then Microsoft Windows Updates

Check Disk examines disks and can correct many types of common errors on FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS drives.

  • Open Command Prompt by clicking on Start -> Run or windows key + R then type “cmd
  • Right click on cmd.exe and run it as administrator
  • Type “chkdsk /f“. This will schedule check disk to run at the next computer restart. Press “Y” and enter, please note this scan can take a while
  • Restart your computer to start the check disk scan
  • Once check disk finishes fixing common errors on your drive, run the Microsoft windows updates

Download Updates Manually WSUS Offline Update
